Guidelines

This challenge consists of 3 stages which are

 

FIRST STAGE

  • Exhibition Demonstration

    • Concept (40%)

    • Prototype (30%)

    • Video on Prototype's Development (5%)​

Stage 1

EXHIBITION & DEMONSTRATION

All teams should finalize their booth set up before the exhibition and demonstration session.

 

In this session, 2 teams of each track with the highest mark will be selected to pitch again during the final stage, V.Pitch. Therefore, each team needs to be prepared with the working prototype, slides or any materials that will help in the exhibition and demonstration. The time allocated for this demonstration is 8 minutes.

 

Each team will be required to demonstrate the prototype to the judges and public. Evaluation is based on the creativity of each team in presenting their booth display and the functionality of the exhibit product. Each team should ensure that their product is in working condition before the demonstration takes place. The team should present, explain and answer all questions from the judges. The booth must be attractive and informative in order to attract more visitors to your booth.

 

A prototype of the product, short video, poster and brochures related to the product are encouraged to be prepared for promotional purposes (Please refer to the rules & regulation below for the guideline of video and poster). Marks will be deducted if teams are unable to comply with the rules and regulations as follows:

RULES AND REGULATIONS

​

  1. All team members are compulsory to participate.

  2. The participants can wear any formal attire or smart casual, provided that it represents your institution, and the participants must follow the General Rule of Dress code of IIUM.

  3. The exhibition & demonstration should be conducted in English.

  4. All teams are required to be at the exhibition & demonstration place 30 minutes before the program starts.

  5. Each team should solve the problem statement given according to their respective track and the prototype must fulfill the concept.

  6. Each booth should include the information of your product. Each team are COMPULSORY to provide :-

  • SHORT VIDEO

    • 3 minutes only. Marks will be deducted if the video exceeds 3 minutes.

    • Free to include any information in this video as long it promotes the prototype.

  • POSTER

    • Need to print in A1 and display during the exhibition.

    • Include name of team member, supervisor, and university.

    • List down below is the guideline of the poster. Feel free to include them or not.

      • 1) ABSTRACT - Brief outline about your project.

      • 2) PROBLEM STATEMENT - Problem statement that you are going to address in your project. Must be in lined with your project objectives. Define the problems here and TRY to solve in the objectives.

      • 3) PROJECT/PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT - What are the steps/strategy to achieve your objectives?

      • 4) DESIGN ANALYSIS - Analyse your project in term of health, safety measures such as user and environmental aspects (if any), marketability and financial aspects of your product/system. You may include figure, diagram, picture, graphs etc.

      • 5) CONCLUSION

      • 6) ACKNOWLEDGMENT

   7. At the end of the exhibition & demonstration, each team should clean up their booth.

Stage 2

V.RACE

  1. All team members are compulsory to participate in this challenge. The team will be divided by the organizer.

  2. The duration for the challenge is three (3) hours. The challenge will be inside IIUM.

  3. The attire for V-Race :

    • Male : Official T-shirt of VIndrEC'18, tracksuit, sport shoes.

    • Female : Official T-shirt of VIndrEC'18, tracksuit, sport shoes.

  4. All the participants will be given a set of problems.

  5. Each team needs to finish the entire task at every checkpoint.

  6. Participants are free to manage and solve the tasks with their own creativity.

  7. Individual marks will be given in this challenge which can contribute to the final marks.

Stage 3

V.Pitch

This final pitching session is the continuation of the selected team who get the highest mark during the exhibition and demonstration before. Each team must deliver a presentation followed by a question and answer session.

 

The time allocated for this pitching session is 13 minutes: 8 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for Q&A session.

 

The evaluation is based on the idea of the invention i.e. (whether it fulfilled the theme, the performance of the presenter(s), the content of the presentation, the ability to answer questions from judges during the question and answer (Q&A) session, and the overall performance during presentation session.

 

 

 

RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. The slide presentation must be sent before 12 am (14 April 2018) at email vindre.challenge@gmail.com. Submission after the given period will not be entertained.

  2. Presentable outlook.

  3. Presentation must be conducted by the team member(s).

  4. Presentation must be conducted in ENGLISH.

  5. No supervising (academic advisor & etc.) will be permitted in the staging area or allowed to assist with equipment being used in the presentation.

  6. Presenter(s) must observe punctuality.

  7. Points will be deducted for either running under or over the time.

  8. Discussions among teammates are allowed during Q&A session.

  9. The multimedia presentation can either be in Microsoft Power Point (.ppt) or Adobe Flash (.exe), etc.

  10. The format for video clip can either be in .3gp, .AVI, MOV or mp4 (If any)

  11. Refer the contents of the presentation below. You may include, remove, or add the content of this presentation as long the presentation not exceeds the time limit.
